DGLR Stuttgart

Rechenkraft.net e.V.

Rechenkraft.net e.V. is world-wide the first and so far only officially registered non-governmental organization founded by volunteer computing enthusiasts to support distributed and grid computing. With over ten years of practical experience in supporting, developing and maintenance of distributed computing projects, Rechenkraft.net e.V. unifies layman people as well as specialists in a versatile, multifaceted community to demonstrate the power and creativity of cooperative efforts in tackling apparently intractable scientific problems.
Rechenkraft.net e.V. is a charitable, non-profit organization with international members that is located in Germany and, among many other activities, currently operates the RNA World distributed supercomputer, the Yoyo@home umbrella project and actively helps establishing the aerospace project Constellation. Our goal is to help solve scientific problems by (1) offering practical know-how required for setting up distributed computing projects, (2) recruiting volunteer compute resources and (3) supplying educational background information in a format understandable by anyone.
We are convinced that the combined computing capabilities of home computers by far outperform any supercomputer that has operated on this planet so far and these mainly idle resources we aim to recruit for the good of science.

shack e.V.

shackspace, the stuttgart hackerspace, offers the infrastructure for your hobby hacking projects. On approximately 400sqm you can find everything you need to realize your project: a small workshop, a well equipped electronics lab, a large lecture room, a media-lab for all things audio-visual, a large and cozy lounge, a data center, access to power, internet, as well as food, beverages and a kitchen 24/7. But you can have all this at home as well so what sets a hackerspace apart from you building stuff on your own at home is the community: for all problems that might come up during your hacking adventure, someone will be there with advice should you get stuck.
Trying out the latest in obscure programming languages? Someone will be interested.
Problems building your printed circuit board? We've got people who can give tips, the equipment to print, and etch the board and soldering is really easy once you get going.
Don't know how to do X with Y? If 5+ different ideas aren't good enough for you, someone will have a 6th.

shackspace is run by the members of shack e.V., a non-profit organization and is open to the public.
Just drop by and get hacking!

Uses what Application?
HyEnD, DGLR

In June 2006 the Student work group STAR at the University of Stuttgart started the new project HyEnD - Hybrid Engine Development with the goal of developing, building and testing a Hybrid Rocket Engine with a total thrust of 2000 N. With a burn time of 10s that results in a total impulse of 20000 Ns. The corresponding test stand will be placed somewhere on the area at the University of Stuttgart.

Our team consists of Aerospace Engineering students at the Universität Stuttgart who spent a huge time of their small free time for that project. The fun in designin, calculating and building real rocket engines is primary focused. Our work is financed by our sponsors, who support us generously.

Interested students who want to enhance their sometimes theoretical lectures and studies with something practical, and are also enthused about space flight and propulsion in particular, can leave a message via our contact site.

HyEnD uses the Constellation "TrackJack" application for flight altititude optimization.
